Area Activities

The Lake Taupo region of New Zealand offers an abundance of things to do and as part of your stay at our luxury lodge accommodation here in Taupo we will gladly take care of all activity arrangements on your behalf. So if you're into fishing, adventure sports such as kayaking, rafting, bungy jumping, skydiving, skiing (water or snow), jet boating or mountain biking, or more leisurely pursuits such as hiking, bush walks, golf, wine-tasting, cruising on the lake, relaxing in a mineral pool or shopping, just let us know and we'll organise it for you.

Fishing

The Taupo fishery, in the heart of the North Island, has a worldwide reputation for offering a wide variety of superb angling water. Rainbow trout in Taupo have some characteristics common to steelhead in that they treat Lake Taupo - one of the largest and most pristine freshwater lakes in the Southern Hemisphere - like a sea. The average weight of trout caught varies from year to year, but is usually around 1.6kg (3.5lb). Fish weighing over 4kg (9lb) are not uncommon, and although the majority of these are brown trout, trophy rainbows are still caught. Most fish landed by fly anglers are caught on lures or streamers (wet flies) and nymphs, although surrounding streams offer some excellent dry fly fishing. Boat fishing is also very popular and accounts for large numbers of fish taken.

Tauhara Sunrise offers both boat fishing and fly fishing, year-round. Even if you're a complete novice, our guides can teach you to fish in no time. Fish for half a day, a full day, or, if you're a serious angler, days or even weeks on end. If you're interested in an all-inclusive fishing vacation using Tauhara Sunrise as your base, with everything (accommodation, meals, drinks, guiding services and gear) wrapped into a single fee package, click here
