From the North

As you approach Taupo from the north, you pass Wairakei Resort on your left, just past all the pipes carrying geothermal steam. A few minutes later you will come up a long hill and near the crest, there is a sign that says "Huka Falls and Scenic Lookout, Next left." Stay on State Highway 1, but prepare to take the next right, which is marked "Acacia Bay and Kinloch." Drive 300 metres/yards and turn left into Acacia Bay Road. After 1 kilometre (just over half a mile) you will come to a stop sign. Proceed straight ahead for another 4 kilometres (approx 2.5 miles) and you will arrive at the archway marking the entrance to Acacia Bay. About 400 metres/yards past the entrance, Acacia Bay Road will veer to the left. Do not veer left, go straight ahead onto Wakeman Road and then immediately, take a right turn onto Mapara Road. From the South

Pass through the town on State Highway 1, veering left at the roundabout near Woolworths. Cross the river, and take the first left, which is Norman Smith Drive. Norman Smith dead-ends into Acacia Bay Road. Turn left, and follow Acacia Bay Road until you come to the archway marking the entrance to Acacia Bay. About 400 metres/yards past the entrance, Acacia Bay Road will veer to the left. Do not veer left, go straight ahead onto Wakeman Road and then immediately, take a right turn onto Mapara Road.
