Honeymooning in Taupo

New Zealand has a global reputation as a honeymoon destination, but why is Taupo one of New Zealand's honeymoon hotspots?

There are several reasons, including:

  • Taupo's volcanic and majestic beauty. Lake Taupo itself is pristine and spectacular and the volcanoes of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro form the backdrop and also offer skiing and hiking opportunities.
  • The range of adventure activities - skydiving, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, canyon swinging, jet boating, quad biking - they're all on offer for adrenalin junkies
  • The proximity of Taupo to the North Island's other major tourist attractions, making Taupo an ideal hub to base yourself and take daily trips - Waitomo glowworm caves are 1 3/4 hours, Rotorua with its thermal activities and Maori culture is 1 hour, Tongariro National Park is 1 1/4 hours, and the Hawkes Bay Wine District is 1 3/4 hours
  • Romantic accommodation options - of course Chalet d'Amour at Tauhara Sunrise (we think) tops the list, but there are luxury hotels and other luxury lodges to choose from, most offering spectacular views.
