Luxury in New Zealand is affordable again
For visitors from the US, UK, Australia and other countries, New Zealand has become much more affordable over recent months. For example, in September 2008, one US dollar bought about $1.30 NZ. As of this writing (March 2009) $US1.00 buys $NZ2.00. This means that a suite in a luxury or boutique lodge that is priced at $NZ500 per night is now just $US250 per night, versus $US390 just a few months ago.
Not only has our dollar slid versus most major currencies, but international airfares have also dropped considerably, with return tickets from the US to New Zealand for example, selling for as little as $US800.
New Zealand is renowned for its luxury and boutique lodges and bed and breakfasts and for the hospitality that can be found at these establishments, as well as throughout New Zealand. For some however, that luxury has been out of reach in recent years. Now, however, you may be surprised at how affordable a luxury New Zealand vacation has become.
